SPORTING enthusiasts today welcomed the opening of Laurimar’s new Town Park Community Pavilion.
Assistant Minister to the Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said that the Australian Government provided $300,000 towards this community infrastructure project.
“The Australian Government is continuing to deliver on its election commitment to fund infrastructure upgrades across Australia under the $350 million Community Development Grants Programme,” Mr McCormack said.
“We are committed to funding projects just like this one that have a longer term positive impact on the social and economic infrastructure of communities.”
City of Whittlesea Mayor Ricky Kirkham said the existing pavilion underwent significant refurbishment and would be a welcome addition to Laurimar Town Park.
“This new pavilion provides the community access to four modern recreational and meeting rooms, amenities, first aid room and an umpire’s room,” Cr Kirkham said.
“These facilities will be well utilised by our local sporting clubs in particular the football and cricket teams and assist in the promotion of healthy and active lifestyles in the area.
“Our pavilion has been extended and now includes a large covered area providing spectators and enthusiasts some protection from the weather while supporting their favourite sporting team.”
Council was pleased to work in partnership with the Australian and Victorian governments to deliver the Laurimar Town Park Community Pavilion.
This project was jointly funded by the Australian Government which contributed $300,000, the Victorian Government which provided $642,700 and the City of Whittlesea which invested $854,968.
