The Melbourne Ice have got their 2016 campaign off to a winning start in the Australian Ice Hockey League. They defeated the Melbourne Mustangs 3-0, in front of a sold out crowd at the O’Brien Group Arena in the first Melbourne Derby for the year.
At the end of the second, the Ice were up 1-0 with the lone goal scored by Joey Hughes in the opening minutes of the game.
In the third, the Ice ramped up the attack, with goals coming from Matt Armstrong and Tommy Powell to finish off the Mustangs in their season opener.
“A huge shout out to all the fans who made it to last night’s epic Derby!” The Ice posted on their Facebook page. “It was great to see a packed house of hockey supporters and even better to walk away with the opening win!”
