Editor’s Note
Hey Fashion Lovers,
We have reached the midway point of winter, and it’s
FREE-EEE-ZING (to say the least)! What I’m loving at the
moment is the ‘bare minimum’ look, which does sound
quite funny considering the last thing one would want
to be is bare in this weather. In fact, I’m talking about a
beauty look – that limits you to using a maximum of
three makeup products a day. You could use a tinted
moisturiser for light coverage, concealer to conceal
your blemishes and lip and cheek tint to add a dash of
colour to your lips. And you can mix it up each day!
I know a lot of people wear loads of makeup because
they arent the slightest bit comfortable being seen
without it. If this is the case for you, test this routine
out for a week, and see how you feel afterwards. You
might be surprised by the results! Starting this
month, we have a beauty column at the end
of the magazine. We hope you enjoy it!
Happy Reading!

Just because theyre
masculine, doesnt mean
a girl cant wear ‘em! As
the androgynous fashion
trend rises, so does the
amount of man style
brogues and loafers
on the feet of females.
Theyre classics and give
off such a smart appeal.
First it was bucket hats,
now its bucket bags. It
all started with high-end
New York label Mansur
Gavriels cute and much

name for bucket bags and
has inspired numerous
variations on its own
design.

LAURA BARRY
The capsule wardrobe
is a minimalist lifestyle
movement endorsed by
celebrities, bloggers and
stylists alike. It is the
concept of whittling down
ones closet to a small
number of specifically
chosen items that fit the
season, are practical and
are mix-and-match-able.
It could be argued that the
minimalist lifestyle choice is
a response to consumerism
and fast fashion, an attempt
to remove the materialistic
and trend-driven aspect of
fashion or style, and replace
it with a carefully curated,
high-quality yet practical
selection of necessities rather
than wants.
The capsule wardrobe has
become popular for its
practicality; it de-clutters
your wardrobe and makes
dressing in minutes a
breeze, as you can evaluate
all of your options in a
matter of seconds. It forces
creativity in order to make
something new from the
same selection of items, and
in doing so, forces you to
define and understand their
personal style. Furthermore,
knowing that you only have
room for a select few items
each season, cuts down on
spending and frivolous and
emotional shopping, which
means less buyers remorse
and more money and time
for more important things.
Ultimately, the capsule
wardrobe falls into the
minimalist lifestyle motto
that less is more, and that
we, as humans, should
spend our time, money
and energy undertaking
more meaningful things in
life rather than agonising
over the minutiae. It
should come as no surprise
then, that Marie Kondo’s
book ‘The Life-Changing
Magic of Tidying Up:
The Japanese Art of
De-Cluttering and
Organizing’ has become
a #1 New York Times
bestseller and her method,
dubbed ‘KonMari’, has
taken over the world
quicker than zombies in
The Walking Dead, and has
integrated fully into the
minimalist fashion scene.
The ‘KonMari’ method
dictates that you should only
keep things that spark joy

inside of you, and remove
all others from your life.
She writes that all things
have energy, similar to the
Japanese practice of Reiki,
healing through energy and
touch. Kondo believes, by
touching an item, you can
impart an energy on it or it
can tell you when something
is wrong. Since the books
release, the method has gone
viral online with wardrobe/
KonMari hybrid projects
popping up across Tumblr,
Pinterest, blogs, YouTube
and even the Huffington
Post.
So, without further ado,
heres a beginners guide to
de-cluttering your wardrobe
and possibly creating a
capsule collection using the
KonMari method.
The KonMari method suggests going through
everything you own in groups. E.g. Dump all your
clothes on the floor at once. Then move onto shoes,
jewellery, accessories, linen, books – the group list is
endless.
Pick each item up, and think about whether or
not this item sparks joy inside of you? If you arent
particularly emotionally attached to your clothes, try
questions like, does this still serve its purpose? Is it on
high rotation? How do I feel when I wear it?
If it sparks joy, keep it. If not, the KonMari method
suggests thanking that item for the role it played in
your life, then toss it.
Organise your closet, hang all items that you feel would
be ‘happier’ hung, and fold all other items, placing them
into drawers in such a way that you can see everything. If
youre particularly keen to follow the KonMari wardrobe
method, pop onto YouTube and do a quick ‘KonMari
search for endless tutorials on folding her way.
Visit Marie Kondo's website here.
The 'KonMari' method
dictates that you should
only keep things that spark joy
inside of you,
and remove all others
from your life.

Its hard to keep up a natural
summer glow during winter, and
as the cold days settle in for a
while, weve taken the hard work
out of picking the best of the best
in beauty products, which will
help you achieve the makeup look
of the moment – see Gigi Hadid
for some serious inspiration. From
contouring pallets to highlighters
or bronzers, there are a million
and one different options out
there in the world of makeup. Ever
been to Mecca Maxima and felt
overwhelmed by the sheer number
and variety of stuff in there? Heres
a beauty breakdown that will
hopefully make your wish, for the
return of your once golden summer
skin, a reality!
Beauty Breakdown:
Summer Glow
BY CHRISTINA KARRAS
The Multiple by NARS
$56.00
What: A multipurpose
(hence the name) lightweight
cream stick that is perfect in
adding a swipe of radiance to
your skin, for highlighting or
a bit of extra colour.
Where: This product is impressive
for more than one reason, but it is particularly
great as it is a 4-in-one! It can be used
practically anywhere, but most would agree
with eyes, lips, chest and everyones favourite –
cheeks!
Tone: Comes in matte and shimmer shades,
and ranges from an iridescent pink for lighter
skin to a richer shade for darker skin tones.
48
Illuminator by NARS
$42.00
What: Another good one from NARS, and is a similar
but different product. This is a cream illuminator with
shimmer that definitely gives that dewy natural finish, in
combination with your usual coverage or alone.
Where: This one is probably best to stick with the usual
highlight areas, being the top of your cheeks, edge of your
nose, brow bone and cupid’s bow. Dont want to leave the
house like a disco ball, unless…
Tone: Again, has a good range of 5 colours, but the
medium shade ‘Orgasm’ is quite versatile, as it is a sort of
peachy pink with a gold shimmer’.
What: A matte bronzer that is
perfect for warming up the face after
foundation or even a bit of contouring.
As it is matte, it gives a great tan look
without the sparkly finish of some
other products, if that isnt your style.
Bonus points for you vegans as well, as
it contains zero animal products. P.S. It
is made from REAL cocoa powder! It
smells like chocolate!
Where: Cheekbones are the best,
especially if you want to give your face
definition. Lightly blend around your
temples to frame your forehead.
Tones: It is a medium/deep brown
bronzer, but of course, the amount you
use will change the intensity.
Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
by Too Faced
$39.00
49
Step by Step Contour Kit
by Smashbox
$60.00
What: This is an awesome product for those
who are not so confident with the ins and outs of
makeup, as it contains an angled brush and most
importantly a guide of where to apply! It is a 3-in-
one pallet consisting of a contour colour, bronzer
and highlighting shade that is easy to blend and
create definition with, while adding some warmth to
your face.
Where: The guide inside tells you where to put
what and what is best for your face shape! Amazing,
right?
Tone: This kit is suitable for all skin tones, youve
just got to know how to blend!

50
Ambient Lighting Bronzer by Hourglass
$65.00
What: Another handy combination, this
lightweight product uses the illuminating
effects of the lighting powder and a
bronzer in a blended compact, to give
the desired look of a healthy and glowing
complexion.
Where: It is great to build upon, so
apply to your cheekbones for a light
contour or to the edges of your face for the
staple bronzed look.
Tone: Comes in two shades – ‘radiant
bronzed light’ and ‘luminous bronzed light’,
both are compatible with all skin tones.
Argan Illuminiser
by Josie Maran Cosmetics
$35.00
What: An amazing glowing, hydrating
cream illuminiser, in a convenient pump
form, enriched with Argan oil and great for
those whose skin needs the extra moisture.
Gives the ultimate holiday glow, without
the holiday!
Where: The best areas to give the extra
glow to are the high parts of your cheeks;
go with a dab on the tip of your nose and
cupid’s bow, and you could even apply to
the eyes as a base colour.
Tone: One universal dewy colour that
can only be described as champagne
mixed with bronze mixed with gold.
Dont forget the
most important, real
natural ways to keep
your skin glowing –
moisturising and
healthy eating for
an inner and outer
beauty. Savour
winter guys, it will
be summer again
soon, and we will
all be sweating off
our perfectly applied
makeup before we
know it!
