Welcome to the December issue of
The Australia Times Kids magazine.
Christmas is coming soon, we therefore have
colouring Christmas activities that are suitable for
children ages 3++. We also have the second
part of Introduction of Addition. Finally, we have
a kids poetry by Sandra Fitzgerald and a kids
story titled Cupcakes written by Michael King;
both of them are from Rowville Aspiring Writers

GEO will have a strong environmental focus.
Initially, attention will be concentrated on Biodiversity
(species loss and conservation), Biogeochemical
Cycles (the nitrogen cycle and overuse of fertilizers)
and Climate Change (evidence and impacts of
a changing world).
We are looking for articles to draw attention to
environmental work at a local level and would also
welcome articles on other ecological topics.

OUTBACK
THE
AUSTRALIA
TIMES

This magazine is intending to reflect the unique
character of the everyday people of Australia's vast
outback country.
It will present the stories, verses, humour, photography
and art of those who have lived there in the past,
or who live there now: lives often reflecting extreme
isolation in a sometimes temperamental landscape,
tales of survival and tragedy, every aspect of life in a
land that was old when man himself was young. Its
pages will also preserve the thoughts and aspirations,
of men and women who desire to acquaint themselves
with the beauties and terrors of that ancient, whispering
country that is the essential substance of Australia's
true spirit, far beyond sight of the coastal cities, towns
and settlements where the majority of the population
congregate.
Our pages will not only carry the experiences of
successful entrepreneurs, but also the vision of
ordinary adventurers, the battlers and victims, including
those who left their dreams and bones in waterless
deserts and sleep for ever beneath the sands, safe
from the swirling, flaring bushfires, the blinding dust
storms and the floods that wash away droughts.

Imagine if we lived in the sky,
All the amazing things that would fly by.
Our house resting on a puffy white cloud,
Colourful hot air balloons floating about.
Soaring birds chattering out with glee.
The sun shining brightly over me,
Oh, how grand it would be.
Until a huge airplane come soaring our way,
Rattling the windows and shaking the doors,
We’d have to cover our ears as it roared.

Imagine if we lived in the desert,
All the amazing that would be present.
Our house settled deep in the sand,
The doors stuck and the windows jammed.
Tiny reptiles scurrying at great speed,
A double humped camel staring hard at me.
Timid scorpions and slithering snakes
Leaving their trails in great haste.
A tricky mirage there would be,
With a blue pool of water and a huge palm tree.
Until the wind would start to blow,
Making a dusty sand storm grow.
Maybe we should come back tomorrow.

Imagine if we lived in the jungle,
All the amazing things there would be wonderful.
Our house tangled up high in a tree,
Covered in vines and big green leaves.
Two chimps swinging past our front door,
Oh, now look, there are two more.
Brightly coloured birds loudly squawking,
Try to listen carefully, I think they are talking.
Giant elephants marching slow,
Trumpeting out loud as they go.
A prowling lion, crouching down low,
Ready to pounce should I dare to go.

Imagine if we lived in the artic,
Everywhere we looked would be sparkling.
Our house slipping on cold hard ice,
Oh how I hope it is water tight.
Prancing snow fox’s passing our home,
A lazy sea lion lets out a groan.
A mummy polar bear searching for lunch,
As her little cubs play and have such fun.
A gigantic whale sprays water up in the air,
While it splashes about without a care.
Water seeping under the door,
The windows are fogging up, I can’t see anymore.
