Once upon a time there were a cute little
television puppets named Pinky and
Perky; a feisty Muppet, Miss Piggy, then
the movie Babe and now theres another
little porker puppet-person wowing kids
of all ages, named Peppa Pig.
Peppa has taken the world by storm and
this is reflected in lots of TV shows toys,
books, tours, and now, Peppa is coming to
us down under.
Brisbane-based actor Bekki Adams and
her crew will be touring throughout
October and November, bringing to the
stage wonderful true to life puppets, a live
cast with some of Australias best musical
theatre artists.
Peppa Pig is Bekkis baby here in Australia
and shes been involved with these loveable
characters since successfully auditioning
for the part of Peppa in 2013. “After all this
time, still frightfully addictive, Bekki said.”
This is a great pre-Christmas treat for kids
of all ages. Already a hit in Britain, the
show, called The Big Splash has received
lots of good notices; Londons Daily
Telegraph has described the show as
A rollicking all singing, dancing,
interactive adventure.”

One of the main tourist attractions in Shelby
was the Old Courthouse. Built in 1850, it was the
place to end a criminal’s career, register a birth
or a death, obtain a licence or settle a dispute;
today’s disputes being Sergeant Boden, NSW
Police versus any erring motorist or underage
drinkers.
The Town Council had seen to it that, The Old
Courthouse was kept in its original condition and
repaired to the best match possible, anything
that was fairly worn or torn.
In its wisdom, the Town Council, in 1935,
under the mayoral administration of Councillor
McLaughlin, had opted to add a museum to the
Courthouse.
The Old Courthouse was still in use and Mr.
Avery or Miss Last, or both of them together
often took classes to let them see the wheels
of justice in operation. The highlight of the visit
was always a look around the museum, which of
course, gave us kids the chance to look at history
and for Miss Last and Mr. Avery the opportunity
to steal away for a coffee.

However, nothing could compare with the trial
and incarceration of notorious bushranger,
The
Actor
, back in 1882. Thomas Jenkinson, son of
noble parents, was an English emigrant whom
legend decreed he was a latter-day Robin Hood
whose sole right was to deprive the very wealthy
of their gotten gains - ill or otherwise, and the
Colony of part of its gold from the mining towns,
nearby.
Legends grew of how he robbed the rich, sold the
proceeds in black markets in Sydney’s seedier
venues and returned the money to those in need.
People talked of how he cockily wrote to the
coach companies, apologizing for robbing them
and assuring them that all ‘proceeds’ had been
disbursed fairly.
The legends were further fanned by stories in
the now defunct
Shelby Town Crier
.
The fact was. Thomas Jenkinson, despite his
genteel upbringing, was an out and out thief and
robbed for his own gain.

Yet, people believed the legends and there was
standing room only when Jenkinson was brought
to trial in 1882.
The Town Crier
reported:
“Oh what transport of
delight! This day we shall
see the trial, and it is hoped,
the incarceration, of this
miscreant, this robber known
as The Actor, but to his
parents and our noble police
service, Thomas Jenkinson,
gentleman, late of England
and Sydney. Today, justice
will be done in the Court-
house situate in the township
of Shelby, administered by
Mr. Justice Melbourne and a
jury of twelve good men and
true.
This worthy publica tion must
pay tribute to Serjt. Herlihy
and Constbs. O’ Reilly and
McTavish, who made the
long-awaited arrest?
Our gallant troopers
confronted the accused at
sunset, on the Shelby track,
awaiting the arrival of the Royal
Mail Coach. The accused ran
away in a cowardly manner
but was apprehended by
brave Serjt. Herlihy and his
men and placed in charge.
Good citizens of Shelby shall
nd out if the aforesaid
Jenkinson be guilty or
innocent and if, the former,
sent from here to a place of
penal servitude until only
death shall release him.
The trial will begin at eleven
of the clock, in the forenoon.
Well may we say, God Save
the Queen. Let Her justice
prevail.”

The copy of the newspaper, was glazed, framed
and mounted on a prominent place on the
museum wall.
The Old Courthouse had obtained, from the
National Film Archives, in Canberra, a copy of
the 1922 silent lm.
The Capture and Trial of
Thos Jenkinson - Bushranger
.
The acting was wooden, the plot contrived and
predictable, but it never failed to amuse the
small boys and girls who saw the lm. They
sat enthralled as the lm showed Jenkinson’s
robberies of the Cobb and Co coaches, his
ght with the Police Troopers, his trial and
imprisonment.

Me and my friends had seen the lm before but
it still dead set holds our attention, as does the
old Cobb and Co. coach, on display in the old
stables at the Courthouse.
Me and Blinky are reading the newspaper
mounted on the wall, with Blinky, whose father
is a doctor, laughing at the quack medical
advertisements. I’m reading the report of The
Actor’s capture.
Gee it’s real beaut to be a police sergeant and
capture a bushranger, I think. Real beaut.

Sergeant Stollery Kelly of the New South Wales
Mounted Police was listening to the story related
by the driver of the Goldtown-Shelby Cobb and
Co coach.
“Bailed me up, he did, Sergeant; dressed as
a parson he was.” The driver was shivering.
“I need a whiskey, sure as fate I do,” he added.
Sergeant Kelly, as well as the Shelby Police
Station knew of the driver’s liking for whiskey.
He handed the driver a shilling.
“Here, go and have one on me, Driver, but before
you go. Are you sure it was The Actor who robbed
the coach?”

“What box, driver?”
“Pound notes for the bank.”
“Surely you had an escort riding with you?”
“Aye, sure I did Sergeant, but he scampered when
The Actor pulled a pistol from his belt. Lucky I was
not carrying passengers. Old Ginger McLaughlin
is bringing in the next coach termorrer, and he’s
got that actress lady from Sydney and he’s also
carrying a proper lady, a Miss Annabelle, she’s
going marry Inspector Boden.”

“Thanks driver, go and enjoy the whiskey.”
Sergeant Kelly leisurely sauntered over to the
Police Station where Constables Billson and
Avery were engrossed in paper work.
“Lads, it looks as if The Actor has struck again.
He’s in the area, and our job is to track him down
and bring him to justice.”

“Well, he’s left a few clues. He always attacks
at Fergusson’s Dam or Last’s Corner and rides
eastwards, away from Shelby.
“He is always in disguise, nobody has seen his
face, so we look for the unusual - swaggie, miner,
anything that he can hide his face behind. He
can change the colour of his hair and change
his beard and voice. That’s why he’s called The
Actor.”
“A cunning fox indeed,” said Avery.
“Aye Constable, that he is, but not cunning
enough for Sergeant Kelly and his men. I’m,
going to ride to Goldtown, pick up the coach and
ride with it back to Shelby. This time we’ll get
him for sure.”

The Goldtown - Shelby coach was clattering
along. Ginger McLaughlin sat relaxed in the
driver’s seat with his escort, a tall, well-built
young man who had applied for the vacant escort
rider’s job at the Goldtown Stage line Depot.
Annabelle was chattering excitedly to the fair
haired lady with the cornower blue eyes.
They were looking at the clean-shaven young
man in the clerical cassock of a parson who was
reading a bible and trying so hard not to fall
asleep.
“Don’t try to keep awake, Reverend,” said
Annabelle. “My mother told me that when your
eyes get heavy, you should sleep.”
“Thank you for your kind thoughts, young
lady, but I must stay awake, I heard there are
footpads, highwaymen that could rob us. You

“By the way, I am The Reverend Stollery, on my
way to Shelby, to preach this Sunday, I hope you
will attend.”
“Praise be, I am Miss Annabelle, the new Sunday
school teacher, betrothed to Inspector Boden
of Shelby. I will attend.”
“And I am Linda La Flinte, an actress, here
to entertain the Church Ladies’ Club.” Her
cornower blue eyes gleamed. “I will be
honoured to attend.”
Ginger McLaughlin kept a steady hand on the
reins, his eyes searching for a possible sighting
of The Actor. “Heard tell, that bushranger held
up the coach yesterday,” he said to the escort.
“Well, he won’t today,” the escort replied. “He’s
not that stupid. We’re carrying the Queen’s
Mail.”

“And some replacement notes for the bank,”
replied Ginger. “About a thousand pounds worth,
I believe.”
“A large sum, aren’t you afraid of bushrangers?
I hear that notorious bushranger, The Actor, is
in these parts.”
“That’s what you’re here for,” replied Ginger.
He cracked his whip, “C’mon giddy up, horse.”
The coach approached Fergusson’s Dam, which
locals said had the juiciest and tastiest eels in
the entire Colony. Two horsemen were trotting
along, slowly, unaware of the coach.
“Hey there,” yelled Ginger, Queen’s Mail coming
through. Make way.”
The horsemen did not budge. Ginger pulled hard
on the reins and halted the coach.
One of the horsemen, turned, smiled and pulled a
pistol from his belt. “Bail up driver.” The second
horseman also pulled a pistol and slowly trotted

Annabelle stared at him. “Are you that robber,
the one they call The Actor?” she said, with a
slight quiver in her voice.
“No madam. I am The Actor,” came a deep voice.
“Driver, dismount please and stay with your
hands in the air. “
The escort had his weapon trained on Ginger.
“Down, now, sir, if you please.”
Ginger dismounted and stood near a huge tree,
his eyes blazing.
“You,” he shook his head in disbelief. “The

“Escort, parson, prospector, I do them all. I
am The Actor.” He gave a mock bow. “Thomas

The other two horsemen had the three

“Now driver, the strongbox if you will. My

your burdensome jewellery and any money you
might have, please place them in the gunny sack.
Parson, you too please. Oh! You may retain your

“Thank you sir, and the Lord bless you.” said the
young parson. He held his bible, opened it, and
pulled a small revolver from the inside, pointing
it at The Actor.
“Surrender in the Queen’s name. I am Sergeant
Kelly, of the New South Wales Mounted Police.”
The Actor shook his head. “Silly man, my men

THE VIRUS
‘Professor Oak here, today my crew and I are going to try
and make a cure for all known diseases in the world,’ he
said with an ecstatic voice, facing a camera.
Then suddenly an alarm started ashing an orange
coloured light around the lthy science laboratory.
‘Sir, we got a breach in Unit 2B, looks like another intruder
shall I call the guards?’ said Thomas Murphy
‘Yes, dispose of that intruder quickly,’ answered Professor
Oak.
‘Okay Professor,’ replied Thomas.
Three security guards dressed in black uniforms with a
Tac 45 pistol and a Colt Machine Gun, swiftly moved to
the location of the unidentied intruder.
They neutralized the threat and arrested him.
‘Patrol the area, lock up any entrances and make sure the

Professor Oak turned off the camera and looked on the

Suddenly Thomas interrupted.
‘Professor if that smoke reaches the air vents this building
and everything in it will be poisoned.’
‘We need to evacuate the building then, ‘ Professor called

immediately.’
‘Roger that,’ spluttered one of the ofcers. Alarms
suddenly rang. ‘Air contaminated, evacuate the area.’
‘Professor, I’m feeling a little…’ Thomas wheezed.
‘The air is poisoned, we need to leave,’ Professor Oak
spluttered.
‘How, the building is sealed shut?’ Thomas replied.
After ten minutes the building and most of the areas in
the building were poisoned. The ve people all infected

replies.
After killing three zombies with a machete he tripped up
and almost got bitten.
‘Emily,’ Phil yelled.
‘I got it, don’t fret,’ responded Emily.
Emily grabbed the zombie then pulled out a pistol and shot
it.
‘Damn, that was close,’ said Phil in a relieved voice.
‘That’s not the end, duck and cover,’ Emily yelled to Phil as
ten zombies started coming at them from each side of an
elevated platform. They rushed to get the two survivors.
As the zombies started to run up the rickety iron steps,
a helicopter appeared overhead and started to re at
