Dear Madison ORiordan,I discovered the amazing volunteer opportunity at The Australia Times through Pedestrian. I am an emerging writer who wants to gain experience so I can learn invaluable skills and meet people in the industry. I am interested in this opportunity both for the experience and because The Australia Times is an independent paper that creates content on a wide variety of subjects. I am currently in my third year at the University of Melbourne, studying a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Creative Writing and Philosophy. Studying creative writing has taught me how to use language artistically to persuade, inspire, interest and to elicit different feelings in the reader. Studying philosophy has given me the skills to identify an argument easily, to analyse said argument logically and to clearly and concisely convey my thoughts. My studies are very valuable for the field of journalism.As listed on my resume, I have extensive experience in the hospitality industry, which has given me skills relevant to a position at The Australia Times. Providing good customer service means that I have good interpersonal skills, I can work as a team if necessary and can also take initiative and self-manage. My fields of interest include nutrition and health, theatre, politics and animal rights, although I would approach any topic with enthusiasm. Thank you for your time.
