Bio

Dear Team at Australia Times,

I was very excited to see your advertisement for contributors for your online Beauty Magazine. I wish to express my keen interest in the position.

I have been a freelance writer for a few publications (Mildred Magazine, Aphra Magazine, Weekend Notes, Melbourne University’s Farrago) but I have a specific interest in beauty and fashion that I would really like to build on and develop. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Media and Communications and French from the University of Melbourne. I am just starting a Masters of Publishing and Communications so now is the perfect time for me to focus on growing my portfolio and working on articles that I am passionate about.

I have experience writing for an arts and culture online magazine, Mildred.co, where I started out as an intern last year. I was offered a part time position and due to the small team I held quite a number of responsibilities. It was such a great learning experience as I was really thrown into the deep end and got to take on responsibilities within the sectors of writing, publishing, editing and even the business side of an online publication. My tasks included writing feature articles, reviews and I was in charge of the fashion section every week. Inputting relevant keywords for SEO and meta descriptions was also part of publishing any article I wrote. Writing copy and promoting the site on social media was an essential part of my everyday job. Communicating with collaborators such as fashion designers and PR agents was fundamental to the magazine publishing every week. I found that it really developed my communication skills and forming relationships within the fashion industry. I was also really lucky to have the opportunity to help the stylist with fashion shoots, helping out with hair and makeup and even the fashion choices. It also helped me grasp an understanding of the process and hard work that goes into pulling off a fashion shoot. The experience was so perfect for me and it opened my eyes to just how hungry I was for the writing aspect of fashion industry.
You can see for yourself my proven written ability in the following links to examples of my work.

As you can see, my passions are fashion, beauty and writing so I couldn’t really think of a better role where I get to combine them all. I love all things beauty and am always trying to find new tips and trends in the market – whether that is recommendations from friends or browsing the beauty aisles. In regards to writing articles, I am willing to meet deadlines and produce exciting new content that will grab the attention of your audience.

I do hope you consider me as a candidate and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Kind Regards,
Stephanie Riordan
