BLACK LABEL BY BURGER PROJECT LAUNCHED TODAY – GEORGE STREET, SYDNEY

Black Label by Burger Project opened today on National Burger Day with a sensational menu…

Black Label by Burger Project opened at 7am today unveiling a much anticipated menu of premium burgers, expansive breakfast items, flavourful salads, and alcoholic milkshakes.

Black Label Granola
Black Label Granola

The newest venture by the Burger Project team brings bold flavours and tasty, healthy options, building on an already established foundation of fresh, sustainable produce. Located at Grosvenor Place, Sydney, the restaurant is cool and sleek, with dark timber finishes and chocolate leather furnishings, making it the ultimate burger, breakfast and bar destination.

The Black Label menu showcases seven masterpieces of burger craftsmanship, packed with flavour and quality ingredients. The Black Label burger heroes the menu: a succulent Cape Grim, grass-fed beef  and triple smoked bacon pattie, layered with pickled jalapenos, cheese, fresh onions, lettuce and tomato, and drizzled with a Black Label secret sauce. Premium produce features prominently throughout the menu. A buttermilk-brined, free-range chicken burger, known as Henrietta, layers coleslaw, tomato, cheese, pickles, onions and zingy house-made Sriracha mayonnaise, while Native features locally-sourced Paroo Kangaroo and Cape Grim grass-fed beef pattie, lemon myrtle mayonnaise, spiced native quandong and bush tomato sauce.

Vegans can get their fix with Zeppelin, a moist chickpea and zucchini pattie topped with layers of juicy beetroot, tomato, lettuce, tangy zucchini pickles and house-made tomato relish, all sitting between a gluten-free vegan bun. Waffle-cut chips, onion rings and a range of specialty dips and sauces bring unique sides to the menu.

Diners can choose between a selection of three bountiful salads, all of which can be protein boosted with poached chicken breast or a chickpea and zucchini pattie. An Asian-inspired noodle salad combines buckwheat noodles, kimchi, shiitake mushrooms and raw vegetables, topped with fragrant coriander, toasted sesame seeds, crispy nori and a splash of gochujang dressing. A superfoods salad mixes green beans, edamame, radicchio, lettuce, red quinoa, almonds, seeds, sprouts and whole grain mustard with apple cider vinegar. A crisp, classic Caesar is also available.

Black Label’s sit-down and takeaway breakfast menu is accompanied by cult Sydney roaster Mecca Coffee, serving house blend, special blend and nitro coffee on tap, a cold, frothy brew infused with nitrogen gas. Coffee is free with any breakfast purchase throughout the opening week, with $1 coffee with a breakfast purchase in June.

Breakfast lovers can kick-start their day with a choice of bircher with seasonal poached fruits, honey and Meredith Valley yoghurt, crunchy toasted granola, or fluffy ricotta hotcakes with maple syrup and butter. Also on offer is a superfoods breakfast bowl: a mixture of barley, quinoa, broccoli, seeds and beans, topped with soft-boiled, free-range eggs. Sonoma’s toasted linseed and sourdough partner up with combinations of soft-boiled, fried and scrambled eggs, as well as avocado and goats cheese smash, grilled mushrooms and house-made baked beans. Those wanting to grab and go can enjoy a gourmet bacon and egg roll filled with Black Label tomato relish, or choose between a selection of Sonoma pastries and muffins.

Chocolate peanut butter, salted caramel and strawberries and cream are just a few of the flavours on an ‘adult shakes’ menu, which means they can be mixed with a choice of spirits, including Belvedere, Jack Daniels and Campari, for an added hit. An array of craft beers, including Young Henrys, Stone and Wood, Hope Brewhouse, and Balter are also on the drinks list, as well as negroni, old fashioned and espresso martini cocktails. Guests can also enjoy 11 local wines by the bottle, or two reds and whites by the glass each.

Black Label by Burger Project is located at Grosvenor Place Courtyard, 225 George St, and will be open Monday to Friday, 7am to 10pm, and Saturday 11am to 10pm, with breakfast available every weekday, 7am to 11am.

MEKONG RETURNS WITH SELL-OUT CRAFT BEER AND CURRY SERIES

BREWS AND CHEWS ‘PART TIW’ –

MEKONG ON KENSINGTON STREET – SYDNEY

DSC_4768

It’s a classic combo like no other: rich and fragrant curries paired with the crisp, hoppy goodness of a cold beer. After the sell-out success of the first series, Mekong on Kensington Street launches round two of their Craft Beer and Curry Series, featuring Chef Tiw’s award-winning Indochine cuisine and collaborations with Sauce Brewery, Lord Nelson, Willie the Boatman and 4 Pines.

DSC_4643

The events will take place monthly from February to June and consist of five shared courses and five paired beers. Brewers will be on hand on the night to chat through the selected beers, tasting notes and why they’ve been matched.

014A4397

Each event will hero a selection of regional culinary delights, from the country’s that border the Mekong River, with cuisine from Cambodia, Vietnam, Northern Thailand and Myanmar. Think unexpected pairings like dark beer and charcoal pudding, spicy dishes with hoppy pale ale.

014A4625

“Indian curries have long been paired with Indian Pale Ale due to the hoppy nature of the beer,” Chef Tiw said. “But the reality is, there are so many beer styles that can complement a curry and we want to highlight some of best in this Craft Beer and Curry Series.”

FARM FRESH DINING AT BELLBIRD DINING + BAR

Sydney Restaurant Launches Saturday 4th November 12pm – 2pm

Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre Launches Brand New Seasonal Dining Destination

**Sydney writer Lucy Collins will be heading to next week’s launch for The Australia Times Gourmet News

20170727_072

It might be named after the abundant songbirds populating the adjacent riverside, but Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre’s soon-to-be-launched Bellbird Dining + Bar is anything but commonplace.

Launching on Saturday 4 November, 12 – 2pm the new seasonal dining destination spins traditional restaurant models on their heads, with an ever-changing menu offering exquisite fine dining out west – at pub prices!

With a whopping 65% of produce grown and harvested just 50 metres from the kitchen door, Bellbird Dining + Bar champions sustainability and low food miles. Paired with direct relationships with artisan suppliers from the local NSW area, it offers a genuine farm-to-table culinary experience, with all dishes $18 or under.

BELLBIRD 5061

Having already gained a loyal word-of-mouth following, Bellbird’s official opening will be part of an exciting launch day at CPAC, with the Wendy Harmer Curates exhibition kicking off at 2PM, plus Sydney Film Festival’s monthly screening for November, the enchanting cat docco Kedi, at 4PM.

The launch is a great chance to sample Bellbird’s fantastic fare for yourself, with canapes showcasing seasonal herbs and vegetables harvested on-site alongside fresh Hawkesbury River oysters, calamari, eco-farmed pork, quail, and goat’s cheese sourced locally around NSW. Drinks will also be provided by South Western Sydney brewery Stockade Brew Co., plus wines from Artemis in the Southern Highlands.

BELLBIRD 4972 b

At the helm is Cordon Bleu-trained Head Chef Federico Rekowski, best known for his 12 years at the highly-rated Courtney’s Brasserie in Parramatta. Supported by Sous Chef Steven Pham (Ex-Courtney’s Brasserie, Fish Face), Federico’s inspiring dishes blend French haute cuisine flair with contemporary Asian and South American influences.

Bellbird will be open 7 days a week from 10am – 3pm, and is raising the bar on what to expect from arts centre dining. It marks the continuation of a grand new refresh of CPAC. Bellbird also serves dinner to accompany select evening events, screenings and performances.

THE CLIVEDEN OPENS IN EAST MELBOURNE

The Cliveden Bar & Dining opened this week. A fitting tribute to an 80s and 90s restaurant icon…

The Cliveden Bar & Dining in East Melbourne, showcases a ‘new way to buffet’, with a keen focus on local and artisan produce and beverages, across an impressive 1000 square metre space.

The Cliveden Bar & Dining (phonetically pronounced Cleev-den) is situated on the same site as one of Melbourne’s most exclusive fine dining restaurants of the 1980s and 1990s – The Cliveden Room – where A- listers such as Barry Humphries, Bert Newton and Jeff Kennett were amongst its famous clientele.

Executive Chef John Ross has curated five unique buffet menus for the restaurant. Concepts include European and Mediterranean cuisine, fresh seafood, comforting roasts, and weekend brunch featuring seafood and pancakes. Separate to the buffet menu, guests can enjoy afternoon share plates, high tea (launching in October), and a charcuterie offering.

Bar Share Plates_2

The oversized Cliveden Bar shines as a focal point of the space, animated by mixologists shaking up Insta-worthy cocktails, including the Bloody Aussie Negroni made with Four Pillars Bloody Shiraz Gin (Vic), Maidenii Sweet Vermouth (Vic) and Red Økar Amaro (SA), served on a sphere of ice with burnt orange zest. Guests can snuggle into a cosy nook, perch at the bar, or gather at low-set round tables, and enjoy live oyster shucking (selected days).

Oyster Shucking_1

The wine list showcases some of Victoria’s best wines from producers in the Yarra Valley, Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas, as well as European varietals. There will be a particular focus on craft beer and cider, plus a range of European brews – both bottled and on tap – and signature spirits (a bespoke spirit range is in development), perfect for pre and post drinks after major sporting events at the MCG and surrounding stadiums.
