The Arena Experience
The PvP niche is a huge part of MMOs, and the following games have been able to deliver in this de-
partment more powerfully than their competitors. If battling other players is what you are looking for in
your MMO, these games are right up your alley.
GUILD WARS 2
Developed by ArenaNet, the sequel to the
award-winning Guild Wars once again tried to put
as much emphasis as possible on PvP — although,
this time around they did add in a lot of PvE fea-
tures, back story, and even more lore to expand
upon as time has progressed.
The Guild Wars series however, is best known for
its PvP. With both a steady learning curve, a great
amount of character customization, balanced class-
es and the ability to jump in with friends and not
have to worry about being different levels, Guild
Wars 2 ticks all the boxes and gives everyone a
generalized level in the arena.
To add on to this already robust set of features is
the World vs. World mode. This mode allows play-
ers to drop in and out at any time onto a massive image source:
island that has hundreds of players on either side Offcial game screenshot
constantly fghting for control of land, and gives
players the ability to utilize siege weapons.
PLANETSIDE 2
Guild Wars 2 is often best known as “PvP done Planetside 2 is unique in that it is the only true
right”, and is available for purchase online. MMOFPS games available, and features a massive
world, three factions to choose from, and large-
scale warfare that supports thousands of people on
one map, battling for domination.
Both graphically and in terms of gameplay, Planet-
side 2 keeps up with—and often surpasses— many
AAA FPS games. It provides all the bells and whis-
tles which gamers expect from a top of the line PC
game and gives shooter fans both vehicular and
infantry based combat, whilst still maintaining a
degree of balance in-game, given that the things
available in the in-game cash shop are mostly cos-
metic items.
