2015 Australian Open title

And then there were two. Novak Djokovic will fight Andy Murray for the 2015 Australian Open title, after he squeezed past Stan Wawrinka in five sets.

The semi-final clash between the Serbian number one and defending champion from Switzerland had the potential to be another classic, but instead it was a strange, error-riddle contest with both players struggling to take control.

It was the first time Wawrinka had arrived at a Grand Slam as the defending champion and he looked impressive as he quietly made his way through the opening rounds, but he confessed after his loss to Djokovic that he was already mentally spent when he walked on court and had ‘no battery’.

But the Swiss maestro wasn’t the only one who was struggling in that department. Djokovic admitted he spent of lot of energy playing defensively, and had a hard time recovering after some points.

But in the end, the top seed did want he needed to do to book a place in the final and has the rest of the weekend to turn things around before Sunday night’s final showdown.

Djokovic will run into a red-hot Andy Murray in the final.

Murray knocked out young Aussie star, Nick Kyrgios, in the quarter-finals and then played some of his best tennis to claim a four-set win over Tomas Berdych in the semis, advancing to his fourth Australian Open final.

There were a lot of doubters when Murray took on Amelie Mauresmo as his coach, but he pointed out after the win that his Australian Open campaign has proved those people wrong.

The Scotsman thanked Amelie for working with him and said he was keen to repay her by notching up a few more big wins.

Murray seems to have an advantage heading into the final if you look at current form, but it would be dangerous to dismiss Djokovic.

The Serbian champion has a winning record against Murray. It currently stands at 15-8 and Djokovic has won their last four meetings.
