BACK TO GALLIPOLI MEDIA LAUNCH
By Mr Kevin Sheedy AM
Caulfield RSL. 4 St Georges Road, Elsternwick
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli, Caulfield and New Zealand RSL sub-branches are creating a spectacular scene for all to come and witness.
Featuring huge images from the Australian War Memorial, a replicated trench and a 1915 canon, Australiaâs only Back to Gallipoli scene is a highly visual reminder of the conditions that those who served endured. The 800 square-metre installation is on exhibition for the whole week preceding Anzac Day, thus providing the perfect opportunity for school students and general public alike to further understand our war history.
Poignantly, this launch is a true ANZAC reflection. Caulfield RSL is home to the only Australian New Zealand RSL sub-branch.
The launch is being formally conducted by the brainchild of the Anzac Day football clash – Mr Kevin Sheedy AM. Sheedy, who served two years in the army, pondered how football on Anzac Day could pay tribute to the Anzac spirit. Exactly twenty years on the Collingwood Essendon blockbuster still spearheads the AFL footy fixture.
Mondayâs launch will also feature a series of war-related songs sung by the world famous Irishman, Gallie.
Following the formalities everyone is encouraged to stay for refreshments and to take in the Back to Gallipoli scene in detail.
