ST KILDA FILM FESTIVAL SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND EVENTS ANNOUNCED

The St Kilda Film Festival has announced an exciting preview of the upcoming 2016 Festival, with details of four speciality programs released and on sale in anticipation of the full launch in late April.

Running from Thursday 19 to Saturday 28 May 2016, the St Kilda Film Festival provides the opportunity for both emerging and established filmmakers, producers and directors to gain recognition among their peers and the general public. Amongst the exciting ten-day calendar there will a range of special programs screened at this year’s Festival.

In partnership with the Palm Springs International ShortFest, a specially curated program from the 2015 Festival will be showcased on Saturday 28 May 2016, featuring the cultural hit Discipline, from Switzerland, where father disciplines his child; he sets of a chain of heightened responses that culminate in a cultural showdown.

Jonathan Marlow, renowned Cinematographer, Film Producer, Filmmaker and Chief Content Officer of movie service Fandor, joins this year’s St Kilda Film Festival as the events international guest. Jonathan has co-curated a program from the American subscription movie viewing service, which showcases award-winning films beyond the mainstream offering.

Taking a step-back in time, the Festival is showcasing a collection of vintage comedy with the Nostalgia program in partnership with the National Sound and Film Archive (NSFA). The program features cult comedy Terror Lostralis; a film classic directed by David Shepherd starring Tracey Harvey and Jack Charles, as well as short film Buckeye and Pinto.

The Festival is also hosting an Indigenous retrospective, featuring short films by well-respected Indigenous directors such as Tracey Moffatt, Warwick Thornton and musician Richard Frankland.

City of Port Phillip Mayor Bernadene Voss welcomes the cultural additions to the 2016 program.

“It’s important to highlight our Indigenous and overseas contributors among our emerging and established talent. Each year the Festival goes from strength to strength, and this year is no exception with special guest Jonathan Marlow, our relationship with Fandor and reinforcement of our partnerships with the NSFA and Palm Springs International ShortFest,” said Cr Voss.

The full festival program including Australia’s Top 100 Short Film Competition, the SoundKILDA Music Video Competition and free filmmaker development program will be announced Wednesday 27 April.

The St Kilda Film Festival is proudly produced and presented by the City of Port Phillip, and is Australia’s longest running publicly owned short Film Festival with a prize pool that totals over $50,000. Award-winning films from the St Kilda Film Festival will be eligible for consideration in the OSCARS® Short Film and Documentary Short Awards.
