The Good Food & Wine Show is a fantastic day out for anyone who loves sampling food and beverages from local and national boutique companies and producers. It’s an opportunity to discover how these culinary delights are made, how to serve them and how we can purchase more!
Trying to decide whether to first taste my way through Tucker’s Natural Cheese Alley or sip the wines at the Barossa Experience was a difficult decision. The temptation was too great and I couldn’t pass up the many oozy and crumbly cheese samples on offer. I found myself gravitating towards the Moondarra Cheese stand. All their mouth-watering varieties of cheeses are 100% Australian, with the honey and pistachio cream cheese a standout. Salty with a hint of sweetness and melt in your mouth softness, along with an extra crunch from the pistachio pieces, makes this delicate cheese a must for my next cheese platter with friends.
After I had stocked up some ‘harder to find’ artisan cheeses, I made my way to the Barossa Experience, where any wine enthusiast would be spoilt for choice at the varieties synonymous with excellent Australian wine.
Deciding to try a new variety, I chose a deep red Grenache. While savouring the aroma and freshness of flavour of this particular wine, I discussed suitable culinary pairings with the winemakers behind the bottles. Picking a few bottles of Grenache to take home, I’m looking forward to trying my bottles with grilled meats and lighter curries.
My sweet tooth led me to the “The Fresh Prince of Baklava” stand, and as the name suggested, it was a fresh take on the traditional dessert. The classic rich, sweet dessert pastry made of layers of filo were filled with either Nutella or Oreo cookies. How can you go wrong with this mouth-watering combination?
Despite the lure of celebrity chefs with helpful hints and scrumptious recipes, the real heart of the Good Food & Wine Show is the exhibitor’s genuine passion to bring amazing food and drink to your table. What a delicious way to spend the weekend!
