Socceroo skipper Jedinak Europe’s fifth best player

By Basil Naimet

Crystal Palace and World Cup Socceroo captain Mile Jedinak has been ranked the fifth best footballer in Europe by fantasy game developer Oulala.

This is no joke!

In fact, according to the statistics, Jedinak is the top performer in the English Premier League. The hard working midfielder polled 397 points, ahead of the likes of Chelsea playmaker Eden Hazard and striker Diego Costa, who polled 320 and 315 points respectively.

This is an amazing feat for Jedinak, whose Crystal Palace side are expected to be in a relegation scrap for the duration of the season.

Jedinak also polled more points than Everton and England full-back Leighton Baines (312 points). However, perhaps the biggest surprise was being ahead of Manchester United’s record signing Angel Di Maria, who scored 282 points.

And the four players who ranked higher than the Aussie captain? Well the top two are football royalty; Real Madrid goal machine Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona magician Leo Messi. Lesser known names like Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and fellow French club Montpellier’s Vitorino Hilton make up the top four.

The results of the fantasy football game are produced by official Opta performance statistics.

Mile Jedinak came to Crystal Palace in July 2011 after a two year stint with Turkish club, Genclerbirligi SK. He set his sights on playing in England and relished the chance to play for one of the league’s larger supported clubs.

“Playing in the UK has always been an ambition of mine and I am totally determined to make my time here an absolute success.

“I am delighted to be joining Crystal Palace Football Club at this stage in my career…Crystal Palace has a fantastic heritage and a wonderful set of fans and I am looking forward to playing in front of them at Selhurst Park,” Jedinak told the club’s website.

In 2014/15 Crystal Palace, with former Queens Park Rangers’ manager Neil Warnock at the helm, are on track to retain their EPL dynasty.

It’s no fantasy that Mile Jedinak will lead them there.
