Finding the right fit with employers

A new training program that seeks out job opportunities before the training is delivered has just been launched across Australia by Red Cross Training Services.

Training Services General Manager Chris Casey says “Our ‘Right Fit’ program turns the traditional VET model on its head by focussing on training for jobs, not just qualifications.

“We are not just a training provider we are leading the way in job creation.

The Right Fit team of trainers and placement officers helps match students with host employers in their local community.  The Red Cross Right Fit model has been well received by employers, particularly in the aged care industry.

Right Fit student Leanne was seeking a career change and secured employment within four weeks of completing her training with Red Cross.

“I wanted a meaningful job that would allow me to continue interacting with people but not impact on my time or finances too much” says Leanne.

Red Cross Training Services helped Leanne to see that she was suited to working as a personal carer and encouraged her to enrol into a Certificate III in Aged Care.

Leanne wasn’t sure if becoming a personal carer was the right career choice for her but after a three week placement in an aged care facility, she didn’t want to leave.

“I’m so glad I decided to go ahead with the course and I was really surprised to get a worthwhile job so quickly. I have been employed with ACH Group for 6 months now, and I love it.

“My shifts are flexible and allow me to work in the morning and be home with my family in the afternoon. I feel like I’m really making a difference by helping the residents maintain their independence and encouraging them to be active and live well.”

Every year Red Cross Training Services delivers 80,000 courses and qualifications to people in conveniently located local training venues. To enrol in a Red Cross training course go online to redcross.edu.au or call 1300 367 428.
