Melbourne’s beloved laneway style precinct, QV Melbourne, is launching a summer cinema in their outdoor QV Square. The deckchair cinema will be perched on the astroturf outside the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre during the summer season.
Opening night is a free screening of The Devil Wears Prada on Tuesday 1st December.
Acrobatic elves from Santa’s Christmas Spectacular will be performing roving tricks before the film, with Melbourne DJ Chiara Kickdrum, spinning tracks in the adjoining laneway.
Melbourne filmmaker and film programmer Gus Berger, has curated the season, which features Festive Films in December, Aussie Flicks around Australia Day, a Melbourne Independent Film Focus in February, 80’s favourites, and special event films with pre-film entertainment and live performances.
“QV Square is known for its memorable events, so we’ve worked to program a cracking new outdoor cinema that reflects this,” says Gus, who revived and programmed the George Revival Cinema, and curates Red Hot Shorts at ACMI.
“Audiences are invited to bring in their dogs dressed for a festive Best Dressed Dog Competition during a fundraiser screening of the hilarious ‘Best in Show’ on Saturday 12th December. All proceeds from the ticket sales will go to The Lost Dogs’ Home. We also have Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’, with an introductory performance from the Australian Shakespeare Company on Thursday 10th December, with more event screenings to be announced for January and February.”
The December Christmas Season features a range of beloved Christmas films, including Home Alone, Bad Santa, Elf and The Nightmare Before Christmas.
FOOD? Absolutely! Film lovers can grab a burger from Grill’d, a Movenpick ice-cream, a dark hot chocolate from Max Brenner, or enjoy initimate laneway eateries within this urban precinct, offering an eclectic mix of cosmopolitan bars, cafes, restaurants.
