Small businesses will join a host of business leaders and inspirational speakers this week to learn how they can influence and improve their local economies at COSBOA’s MicroEconomic Challenge labelled It’s Our Economy.
Talking about the reason behind the challenge, Peter Strong, CEO of the Council of Small Business Australia (COSBOA) announced: “There are more than 2 million small business people in Australia and to grow and sustain the Australian economy as a whole, we need to start with these passionate business owners at a local level.”
COSBOA’s MicroEconomic Challenge, also welcomes keynote speaker Justice Iain Ross from Fair Work Commission who will discuss workplace relations for regional and urban communities and how to reduce modern award complexity.
Held at Vodafone HQ, North Sydney on Wednesday 9th December; The MicroEconomic Challenge will see Justice Ross joined by thought leaders such as Su McCluskey, a panel member of the Harper Review and representatives from ASIC and the Australian Tax Office, to name but a few.
The one-day event will cover a range of subjects including local economic development, workplace relations, vocational education and training, Peer-to-Business lending and crowd sourcing.
In addition, COSBOA’s Small Business Champion for 2015 and project manager on mental health, Leanne Faulkner, leads the panel ‘Healthy Communities through Business’. The session will focus on managing physical and mental health issues, which can drag an economy down.
Peter Strong, CEO of COSBOA, said: “The purpose of The MicroEconomic Challenge is to empower small and medium businesses, providing them with the knowledge they need to improve their local economies, contributing and ensuring a positive future for the whole of Australia.
“The issues the day will cover are – communication, infrastructure and business financing – just some of the challenges that small businesses have to overcome on a daily basis to be successful. The MicroEconomic Challenge will tackle these topics, inspire attendees and give insights on how to overcome them,” completed Mr Strong.
In addition, the Hon John Barilaro, Minister for Regional Development, Minister for Skills and Minister for Small Business has confirmed his attendance for The MicroEconomic Challenge and will close the event.
