The Man Of Mode Review (3 1/2 out of 5 stars)

The Man Of Mode Hero - Portrait

This restoration comedy has been translated into modern English to bring the dark, romanticising ways of poet- Lord Rochester, his comrades and conquests, to the Chapel Off Chapel stage.

A single rose sits on a chair centre stage, as we are greeted with a comic opening from the ensemble surrounding Rochester. He turns in his chair to face us wearing velvet, fingers covered in glorious rings, long dark hair falling around his face. Actor Josh Futcher very much sinks into the role of a man women lust after with their darkest desires.

Whilst there isn’t a continuous stream of laughter the whole way through the show, the characters are so visually delightful with fine tuned physicality and fabulous costumes- we enjoy bountiful entrances and exits, and poetic banter.

Playing until Saturday, come and see if Lord Rochester can put aside his charismatic charm and find a woman to make an honest man out of him.
