The Running of the Wieners!
This Saturday 24th September at Southgate
10am to 3pm
The Teckelrennen Annual Dachshund Race is once again a hugely popular drawcard at this year’s Hophaus’ Oktoberfest celebrations. How could it not be with a record number of short sausage legs running the race! Last year’s race was broadcast around the globe and this year’s will be bigger and better, with 74 dogs ready for action!
There will be a costume parade at midday, where short legs strut their best threads for the top prize. Last year’s sausage dogs were decked out in every kind of costume from pilots and lifeguards to dinosaurs and Melbourne trams!
The annual running of the wieners sees Hophaus team up again with Dachshund Online, and raise money for Dachshund Rescue Australia. The Teckelrennen fest day also includes a full program of German games and activities at Hophaus with Hammerschlagen, Pretzel Tossing, The Great Pretzel Biteoff, and Apple Bobbing from 1-6pm! At 6pm one of Melbourne’s best German bands, the Black Forest Trio, will take to the stage, playing into the night.
September-October’s extended program of events also includes a German Degustation Dinner with Weihenstephaner’s Head Brewer, a dedicated Games Day, Beer Trivia, and a Ladies Love Bier Luncheon.
