In its sixth year and held in the beautiful heritage Meat Market building in North Melbourne, last weekend’s Wine and Cheese Fest was a fantastic day out for both wine and food lovers, where entry included a stylish festival glass and a piccolo tasting glass to keep.
This festival offered two ticketed sessions over the day, and supports local, hand-made products, with exhibitors taking pre-paid tokens from foodies keen for tastings of wine and cheese.
The stalls offered the rare chance to meet local wine and cider makers, cheese producers, local beer brewers, and other small-goods producers and talk to them about their products, all of which were available to purchase to enjoy at home or in the venue’s shady courtyard.
The opportunity to take a masterclass to learn how to make your own cheese board was hard to pass up for some, and there were plenty of enthusiastic participants for the Grape Stomp Comp!
During the first session, I sampled beautiful marinated goats cheese and an interesting, velvety and flavourful ‘Drunken Buffalo’ mozzarella. There were all styles of wines ranging from crisp sauvignon blanc to buttery oaked chardonnays and full-bodied rich shiraz. My favourite wines of the day included a delectably smooth chardonnay from Lyons Will Estate and a full bodied red fruit tempranillo from Ros Ritchie Wines.
This festival offered a host of indoor areas to sit and relax with your favourite glass of wine while soaking up the live music. Stepping outdoors, there was cider to sample while listening to the DJ.
Providing something for everyone, the Wine and Cheese Fest 2018 was a great day out and I’m looking forward to next year!
