Annual event to raise funds for Children’s Tumour Foundation
Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast are gearing up to make a scene this Valentine’s Day at the 2016 Cupid’s Undie Run. Running enthusiasts and fancy dress aficionados alike will take to the streets and strip down to their bedroom-best for charity in the event dedicated to raising funds for the Children’s Tumour Foundation. The annual event aims to raise $180,000 this year in support of research into neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder affecting 1 in 3,000 Australians that causes tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body. The condition can lead to a range of complications; there is currently no cure.
Funds raised at Cupid’s Undie Run will support research into NF in the hopes of discovering effective treatment options and, ultimately, finding a cure for the condition, which can lead to debilitating complications including blindness, deafness, bone abnormalities, learning difficulties, and cancer.
The Children’s Tumour Foundation is the peak national body for NF awareness, research and support. The organisation launched Cupid’s Undie Run in Australia in 2013 to provide a fun, light-hearted way to raise funds and support for a complex, under-recognised and under-diagnosed condition. “NF is a variable and progressive condition. There is no way to predict how mildly or severely an individual will be affected, leaving many facing frighteningly uncertain futures,” says Richard Hughes,
CEO of the Children’s Tumour Foundation.
“Funds raised from Cupid’s Undie Run brings us one step closer to finding a cure and improving the quality of life of many children, adults and families who have been affected by NF.”
The 2016 Cupid’s Undie Run will be held on Valentine’s Day, Sunday 14 February, at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast, and will run in conjunction with the St Kilda Festival in Melbourne. Registration is $60. Participants who raise $200 or more can earn fundraising incentives, including custom Cupid’s Undie Run undies.
