Event this Sunday – Melbourne!
Dandenong Market will host its second Diwali Family Day on Sunday 22 October as part of the annual Hindu festival that celebrates good fortune, family, friendships and the belief that good will triumph evil.
The free community event is one of Dandenong Market’s most popular – with attendance figures expected to reach over 27,000. The festival will offer a pop-up food bazaar, vibrant entertainment and plenty of kid’s activities making it the ultimate family day out.
An additional 12 Indian street-food vendors and food trucks have been added to the existing 200-strong market stall line-up, including Babaji’s Kitchen (South Indian Pancakes), Bombay Bitez (Mumbai Street Food), Delhi Bites (Tandoori Chicken and Biryani), Taka Taka (Sri Lankan Street Food) and Tibetan Momo Kitchen (Authentic Tibetan).
Entertainment will include live performances all day from market favourites Bollydazzlers, Sikander and The Fifths. Free henna hand art and turban styling will also be on offer.
Jennifer Hibbs, General Manager of Dandenong Market, says the Diwali Family Day is a key highlight in the market’s extensive calendar and showcases the diversity of the community who shop and work at Dandenong Market.
“Being the most multicultural market in Melbourne, we love celebrating important cultural events including our Diwali Day Festival. This year we have really stepped it up a notch.
“Diwali Family Day one of our most popular events and we invite food lovers and families to pay us a visit during the festivities and discover the Market’s unique offering in Indian, Sri Lankan and Tibetan and Asian cuisine,” said Hibbs.
