Australia’s best-known Bavarian restaurants have unwrapped their Christmas calendar to reveal a month brimful of brouhaha, festive brews, feasting and good old family fun.

Prepare for a Big Bavarian Christmas party on Saturday, 16 December at flagship restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – Munich Brauhaus The Rocks in Sydney, Munich Brauhaus South Wharf in Melbourne and The Bavarian at Westfield Chermside in Brisbane – with a sack-full of surprises and an attempt to set a big Bavarian record for the largest gathering of St. Nicks.

Dust off your Santa suit, drape yourself in tinsel and bring along some mistletoe mischief to help get things off to a record-breaking start at 11am. Signature Bavarian dishes, legendary steins of pure bier and festive cheer are available all day long, so guests can settle in for the day and celebrate into the night.

A Dogs of Christmas costume contest and prizes for best dressed will take place at 2pm at Munich Brauhaus Sydney and Munich Brauhaus Melbourne.

All three flagship locations will turn up the traditional oompah band tunes from 6pm, which will launch an evening of Bavarian games and challenges, including yodelling, slap dancing and tests of strength to see who can hold steins of beer at arm’s length for the longest. Celebratory keg taps take place at 8pm.

Throughout December, guests can attempt the Twelve Steins of Beer Challenge at any of Rockpool Dining Group’s Bavarian restaurants, which also include Bavarian Bier Café (York Street, Entertainment Quarter, Parramatta, Bondi, Chatswood and Miranda in Sydney and Eagle Street Pier and Broadbeach in Queensland) and The Bavarian (Manly, Penrith and World Square in Sydney and Knox in Melbourne).

Bier enthusiasts, partygoers and all-round merrymakers who drink 12 steins (either 500ml, or 1Litre) over multiple visits throughout the month will score prizes into the draw to win a place on Australia’s Biggest Bavarian Pub Crawl. The winner will receive flights and accommodation for three people, over three days, to attend Christmas festivities at Munich Brauhaus The Rocks, Munich Brauhaus South Wharf and Bavarian Bier Café Eagle Street Pier.

All venues across all three states have Christmas set menus available for larger groups (view Christmas set menus) throughout the festive season.  Also on the menu is a limited-edition Christmas sharing platter, that is as big in flavour as it is in size, and includes a rack of coffee-rubbed pork ribs with BBQ sauce, whole roast chicken, hotlink sausages, pepper Kielbasa, mac and cheese balls, mash and gravy balls (that’s right, one-bite mouth-poppers of mashed potato and gravy), bier jus and salad.

Festive Family Sundays will take place at all venues every weekend during December with free face painters , Christmas activities and children under 12 can eat free from the kids’ menu (with a paying adult). Santa will visit every Sunday between 12-2pm at Munich The Rocks, Munich South Wharf and The Bavarian Chermside.

Christmas Fest parties will be held at Munich Brauhaus The Rocks and Munich Brauhaus South Wharf on Saturday, 23 December, with a fun-filled line-up of Christmas carols oompah-style, keg taps, on-stage Bavarian games and challenges, and prizes for the daggiest T-Shirt.

Munich Brauhaus The Rocks, Munich Brauhaus South Wharf, The Bavarian Manly and Bavarian Bier Cafés at Bondi and Eagle Street Pier are open for Christmas Day lunch, serving classic à la carte Bavarian dishes, the Christmas platter, and set menus.  All of the restaurants in all states are open on New Year’s Eve, so raise a stein, shout a rounds of schnapps, and welcome in the New Year Bavarian-style. Prost!
